HypnotherapyWhat is it?Hypnosis is a state where your mind is focused and your body is deeply relaxed.
It is in between being awake and asleep, and feels similar to when you are daydreaming.
Under hypnosis, the barriers between your conscious and subconscious mind are relaxed, allowing access to your deep inner resources. Hypnotherapy uses this state to help you to achieve your goals and overcome longstanding problems.
Is it safe?Hypnotherapy is simply making use of a state of mind that you probably slip into yourself during the day, to access your subconscious mind to make therapeutic changes that you have chosen for your own benefit.
The changes will be the ones that you want to make and that you will discuss in depth with your hypnotherapist.
You cannot be made to do anything that you do not want to do and you remain in control the whole time.
Your hypnotherapist is simply guiding you into hypnosis which is a very pleasant state of deep relaxation.
Does it work?Hypnotherapy is a very powerful tool to use to bring about therapeutic change.
You and your therapist work together to decide upon, and help you achieve your goals.
Usually this can happen fairly quickly and if change is going to occur, you may only need a few sessions to achieve your aims.
However it is not a magic wand and it can only help you to change if that is what you really want to do.
What is it good for? Some examples of what hypnotherapy is very useful for:-
· Weight loss
· Insomnia
· Anxiety
· Phobias
· Irritable bowel syndrome
· Habits such as nail biting
· Regression
· Achieving your goals.
It is very important when choosing a hypnotherapist that you are treated by someone who is registered with an organisation such as the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council so that you can be safe in the knowledge that they are fully trained and abide by a professional code of conduct.
What to expectThe first thing that happens is that you have a free half an hour consultation.
In the consultation I will take details of what you would like to achieve using hypnotherapy. We will discuss your aims and expectations and look at the best way of achieving them.
With hypnotherapy both the client and the hypnotherapist work together to achieve the client’s aims.
We need to make sure that hypnotherapy is the most appropriate form of treatment for you, as otherwise it would be a waste of your time and money.
Change usually happens fairly quickly so often only between one and four sessions are necessary but this will be reviewed after each session.
If appropriate you may be given a CD for you to use between sessions to reinforce the therapy
